At the Appalachian Bushman School, we’re passionate about sharing the joy of bending iron with everyone, and now it’s your turn to experience it.

Learn to set up, use, and master a blacksmith shop while crafting items you can take home and proudly showcase.

What You’ll Learn:

This comprehensive course combines technical skills and creative projects to give you a strong foundation in blacksmithing:

  • Blacksmith Equipment: Understand the tools and materials needed to succeed at the forge.
  • Building a Forge: Learn the fundamentals of creating and maintaining a functional blacksmithing setup.
  • Basic Hammer Work: Master essential hammering techniques for shaping metal.
  • Technical Metalwork Skills:

    • Hot Cutting

  • Forging Projects: Create practical and decorative items, including:
    • Flint and Steel Striker

  • Basics of Bladesmithing: Get introduced to the craftsmanship behind knife-making.

  • Start Time: 9:00 AM
  • Location: Ringtown, Pennsylvania
  • Class Size: Limited to 10 students for a personalized and hands-on experience.
  • Physical Activity: Expect to be forging for most of the day—come ready to use your muscles!
  • On-Site Amenities:
    • PortaJohn bathrooms available.
    • Students will have access to their vehicles during class.
    • Freshwater is available on-site, but we recommend bringing an additional 1–2 gallons.
  • Meals: Students are responsible for their own meals. We suggest packing nonperishable foods and snacks for convenience during break times.
  • Course Details: An email with more information will be sent one week prior to the start date.

Who Should Attend?

This course is open to anyone age 12 and older who is interested in learning blacksmithing. Beginners, hobbyists, and those with prior experience are all welcome to join.

Age Requirements:

  • Minimum age: 12 years old.
  • Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
