A tinder tube is a traditional method for starting fire with a flint and steel. Simply char one end of the cotton rope and ignite with a spark from a steel striker. Once ignited, use as you would any other ember. When finished, simply pull rope back into the tube and exstingush the ember by cutting off its oxygen.  This was a tradtional method used throughout the Longhunter Era.
